I recently bought a computer with Vista home premium, but the problem is, it wont connect to the internet on my family’s connection. The router is a D-Link DIR 615, and my parent’s laptop (Windows XP) WILL connect to the family’s network. When i go into the list of wireless networks that are available, the computer does see the FamilyNetwork, and it shows that it has a strong signal. I go as far as typing the pin code when it asks for it (which i got off the bottom of the router itself) Then it says “computer can not get settings from d-Link systems DIR 615.” im not all that tech savy so any help will help alot.

My Kasperky system search came up with about 300 files that are password protected with the address of C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Application Data\VideoSolution.exe/data0404/ but the data0404 changes everytime. like data0001 data 0002 etc.. I have tried to locate these files with various methods like searching it in the engine, going to C:\ but i cannot find anything. I am pretty smart when it comes to computers so this seems very odd to me, and just as another thing that makes me see this as odd, maybe a virus, is that when i completely start up my computer after a complete shutdown or restart then at the beggining a screen comes up with something along these lines. Windows has detected a program tying to run. Program name Setup.exe, program location C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Application Data\VideoSolution.exe/data0137/ and something along those lines, and I always say no. in a very dumb move i used registry mechanic and it screwed with my system. mostly on my account(lucky me). I have been using my VGA connection from my desktop HP to my Sony Bravia for about 3 months now. Although when I tried to hook it up to yesterday my TV said “Unsupported Signal”. I have tried every single resolution and have made sure it was at 60hz, but nothing is working. It will flash on for a second then give me the error message. Also, It works on my other computer on a variety of different settings. I feel it may have something to do with the computer monitor. It is an HP 2009 Series Wide LCD Monitor with1600x900 recommended resolution. I feel the driver that is installed with the monitor is not letting me use another output source. Anyone have any ideas? I am wirelessly connected to a linksys router and for the most part it works fine, however it will randomly disconnect or go extremely slow about every five to ten minutes. I think it’s my connection and not my computer because it happens if i want to play on xbox live and it use to work fine about a month ago before my dad got a new laptop. I installed QuickPwn and iPod1,1_2.2.1_5H11_Restore to my Windows 7 computer to jailbreak my iPod. I downloaded them, but then I realized I like my iPod how it is and I don’t want to jailbreak it. But when I tried opening QuickPwn in BitZipper it said there was unwanted software in the program. So I didn’t open it. I then dragged it to my desktop and opened it and a message came up saying something like “Windows is trying to find answers to this problem” but i canceled it. So I deleted it and now I want to just make sure its not a virus.

Upon start up and every time i try to play a game with high graphics, I get an error message telling me that i will get better quality if i use the 1024 x 768 screen resolution setting. This message comes up every 20 seconds or so making it quite impossible to play any game. The problem is my screen resolution IS set to 1024 x 768 and the error message is coming up for no reason. how to make it go away?
My computer used to lose connection to the internet frequently at random times. Well, one day my cousin was using the computer and he went to diagnose and repair which is found by clicking on the little computer icon in the bottom right of the screen which tells you the status of your internet connection and he clicked on the “Automatically get new IP settings” thing and it fixed it. Well, tonight my computer once again lost connection and this time when I clicked it, it didn’t work until I shut down the computer three times and on the third time I got my connection back when I clicked on the “get New IP settings” thing. What I want to know is why did it only resolve the problem on the third try after I re-started the computer 3 times and also reset my modem 3 times!? All Help Appreciated! Thanks!

My favorite program is made to run on Windows XP and lower, but I just got a Vista. Is there anything I can do or download to make this program run on Vista? Is there some kind of patch or something. If not, WHY!!! seriosly, I miss this program.
I have a Dell Latitude Laptop using Windows XP. I took it to Geek Squad because it was skipping and the freezing up when I played DVDs or any kind of audio. When it freezes I have to turn it off witut shutting it down. It also wouldn’t freeze right away..it freezes into about 10 minutes of playing the DVD. It was also making weird noises when it froze. Best Buy informed me that the noise wasn’t any hardware issue, but the kind of noise the computer makes when it’s frozen. They said nothing was wrong hardware wise, and that I had 6 viruses on the laptop. Well now, all those viruses are removed, and my laptop is still skipping and freezing when I play DVDs..to the point where I have to turn off the computer without shutting it down. It was awhile ago when I saw it, but there is apparently something you can download and burn to a disk and it will delete just about everything from your computer to make reformatting easier. Anybody know what the website is? There are missing, necessary files on our desktop or there may have been a virus and now its all screwy. i have a problem with my internal HDD. When this all happened, i was playing a game online. I got a Virus Worm and i shut down my computer and reformatted my HDD and put windows back on. I had a secondary HDD in for back-up purposes. so got windows in and put everything back, but i then noticed that my computers performance went down drastically with my main HDD, I could not copy anything i had onto the back-up drive and once i did it was so slow to copy the file. Once i had all the files on the back-up drive, i decided to start from the back-up drive with windows. Same applied. It was really slow with the reading-and-writing. i decided to take the secondary back-up drive out and boot from the main HDD. Everything seemed to be running smoothly i checked the main HDD Temperature with HD tune. The drives temp was 37 degrees Celsius, and the drive went to normal temperature of 43-44 degrees Celsius. I then decided to plug in the secondary HDD and leave it on for a day. the temperature went from 43-44 degrees to 47-48 degrees Celsius. So my guess is that the HDD drives are getting way to hot, and i am getting what seems like bad sectors in the drive, but it has never done this before. I have always had my back-up drive in ever since i got my main HDD. I can’t place my finger on what is wrong with my drives. Once the main HDD is lower temperatures the drive seems to be performing better. but its normal temperature is 43-44 degrees Celsius and i still have some problems with reading and writing then. Can someone tell me what has happened please. I dont know if it was from the worm virus or if the temperatures are getting too hot (but has never done this before) can someone tell me what to do. I have changed the line leading into the motherboard as well, and that seems to have no effect. i even swapped the board lines between the CD drives and the HDD drives, no effect on that either. can someone tell me what is going on, i have ran out of options. Hello everyone, i just installed a new PSU and GPU. I think i hooked everything up fine, then my PC got shut down twice, i thought it was the CPU overheating. I connected the fan in more tightly, that may have been the problem. However, my CPU is having a hard time running basic programs. As Im typing this, my CPU percentage is fluctuating between as low as 10% and as high as 30% or even 60% at times!! Im pretty sure i have no viruses, infact, this issue didnt start happening until i installed the new parts. Is it overheating? BIOS upon bootup says my temps are like 37degrees celsius. I have Windows 7 Ultimate installed in my HCL laptop. Last month i was encrypting my external hard disk with “bit locker drive encryption”. It started normally, but suddenly after 49%, it stuck, displaying an error: “An error occurred. This disk has one or more errors, run chkdsk/r, if the error persist this may be indicative of a hardware fault…” I then thought to decrypt my data back and to disable the protection. When I tried doing this, after some time my PC hanged and the operation got aborted. When I restarted my system, i found that the disk is not being detected. It is not shown in “computer”, although the disk lights were on. I tried running the hard disk in “Ubuntu OS”, it works there, but all my data is encrypted. My hard disk is absolutely fine and OK. There is no problem with hardware and no virus is there in my PC as well. What to do now? How can i get my data back and how can i decrypt my harddisk? Please help, since this data worths me a lot. Okay..I’m totally a newb at this and I don’t really know much about what’s going on in my computer, but one day I was playig sims 2 and my computer shut down and restarted, and so I didn’t really make a big deal out of it until it kept happening. I thought I had some type of virus so I tried doing a virus scan, and while waiting for that to finish I installed mAlwarebytes and got it installed but for some reason it didn’t run. I have two computers that I’m now having problems with. yesterday, my first computer shut down and said “RPC has been terminated”. everytime I restart that computer, it gives me another 1:00 minute shut down warning. I know I need to change the settings of the RPC, but it shuts down before I can ever get to it. is there another way to fix this? The second computer messed up today. I’ve had my laptop for approximately two years and all of a sudden it has started to shut down constantly. my webcam is integrated into my lenovo ideapad y730, and as lenovo is awful and doesnt have any compatibility with windows 7, when i upgraded, the installer told me i need to uninstall my camera software, lenovo easy camera. are there any generic softwares (for free) that could run the camera, because when i try to use skype or another video chat, all i get is audio, the video wont display. We have a wireless internet connection from Time Warner Cable in our home. Multiple electronics are using the internet from 4 laptops, 2 ipod’s and a Playstation 3. It seems like we constantly need to restart the router for someone to get online. For example: If I am playing a game online with my Playstation 3 then no one else can get on their laptop without restarting it. Another example is if 3 people are on their laptop and now the 4th cant get on without restarting the router. Once the router is restarted then everyone can get on the internet at once. So while it isnt a huge deal, it is annoying having to restart it as soon as someone wants to get on. What im wondering is if this is just something we have to deal with or is there a way to fix this? Such as getting a better router? If there is a need for a better router, any suggestions? I have installed xp in my new pc with core2 duo processor. Its not allowing to install any software with .cab files. showing error that .cab file cannot be read or the file is corrupted. its happening for MS office, games, and all that containing .cab files.

I am running Windows XP SP3 and am connected to the internet through a Comcast modem and Belkin router. It says my internet connection is excellent and this problem does not occur on the other laptop in the house. I have tried many things and there are no viruses or firewall problems. I decided to run IE’s diagnostic thing. It said there was some problem, that I was told could be solved by using Winsock XP Fix (because whenever IE tried to fix it, it claimed it fixed it and to restart my computer, but then when I would restart, the problem would still occur and be detected). I got a virus in my computer, the virus randomly poops up websties when im online, or when i click on a link fro example a link from somthing i googled it send me to this ramdom pages. My internet explorer also keeps on saying that there was an error so it keeps shutting down. My computer decided to kick off the end of the year by picking up something that is making it act whacky. My AV (McAfee) is logging and blocking something called winupdate86 from creating files. Now it seems that every 20 minutes there is a pop up that states that Windows will download a anti spyware program. This is the first time that this has happened to me, so I don’t know how to handle it. I don’t even know if this is spyware, malware, adware or trojan. Even my AV is logging all this it is still does not seem to see this as a problem. So if you could help by answering some questions I would greatly appreciate it. 1. My computer has two hard drives. The AV is logging and blocking files in the first hard drive. Is the second hard drive infected? 2. What free programs are out there to help remove this from my computer? 3. My friend had an executable file that kept trying to log onto the internet. He fixed it by changing the .exe in the file to a .txt. If I know what files are causing the problem can I do the same thing, without harming my computer? 4. Can I take both hard drives, place them in external hard drive enclosures and have a friend with a clean computer scan them to find and remove the problem? 5. Could AVG be downloaded onto a thumb drive and then used to scan my computer? 6. Would it be possible to move files from the second hard drive to an external hard drive without infecting anything? 7. All my friends have Vista or Windows 7. I used Windows XP. If they decided to scan my computer would this cause a conflict with my drives. That is it for now. I believe I may have picked up a virus. Just yesterday my pc started acting “funny” - locking up when moving from one thing to another, etc. Then today I attempted to log into my online bank account and was taken to a page (which looked as though it was part of my bank’s site) that was asking for my name, dob, ss#, bank card number, pin, etc in order to “verify” me. I have a Dell Latitude Laptop using Windows XP. I took it to Geek Squad because it was skipping and the freezing up when I played DVDs or any kind of audio. When it freezes I have to turn it off witut shutting it down. It also wouldn’t freeze right away..it freezes into about 10 minutes of playing the DVD. It was also making weird noises when it froze. Best Buy informed me that the noise wasn’t any hardware issue, but the kind of noise the computer makes when it’s frozen. Copmaq presario 2500 maybe 7+ years old. How do I get this thing to run faster. When we boot it up it takes 5 - 10 minutes before you can use anything, any sooner than that it will freeze up. My computer had a virus and we got it rebooted and after getting it rebooted there is no sound but when I go on device manager and check it says the sound is fine and games that require sound are playing I think it has something to do with the settings. I recently bought a computer with Vista home premium, but the problem is, it wont connect to the internet on my family’s connection. The router is a D-Link DIR 615, and my parent’s laptop (Windows XP) WILL connect to the family’s network. When i go into the list of wireless networks that are available, the computer does see the FamilyNetwork, and it shows that it has a strong signal. I go as far as typing the pin code when it asks for it (which i got off the bottom of the router itself) Then it says “computer can not get settings from d-Link systems DIR 615.” im not all that tech savy so any help will help alot.

I am having trouble making my website transition (i’m using 110mb.com), and i also want to make it have a “Party” page where there is alot of cool animation partyers and stuff like that, but i do not know how. my ex is harassing me on facebook and i am unable to report abuse, what can i do? he blocked me after i sent him a cease and desist message but i would like to report him for abuse. he created fake profiles claiming to be me as well as sending me very sexually explicit and racist messages. he needs to be reported. this is damaging to my reputation because im looking for another job and i dont want employers to see what hes done.

This question revolves around the FireFox Extension: Tamper Data. If I choose to Start Tamper before I click an action available on a website, and it lets me edit parameters, and informs me of the cookie/referer/etc. I know you can recreate that in your browser, but is it possible to recreate that on a different computer? Like, for example, IF I target the ‘Leave Faction’ button on, perhaps, a facebook application called ‘Nations’, IF i did that of course, could I recreate that command on another persons computer, lets say a link on the faction homepage? Which I’m not gonna do, but IF I wanted to? I want to learn how to do this, for knowledge reasons, so I can use it in day-to-day situations. Can someone shed some light on this?

My Kasperky system search came up with about 300 files that are password protected with the address of C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Application Data\VideoSolution.exe/data0404/ but the data0404 changes everytime. like data0001 data 0002 etc.. I have tried to locate these files with various methods like searching it in the engine, going to C:\ but i cannot find anything. I am pretty smart when it comes to computers so this seems very odd to me, and just as another thing that makes me see this as odd, maybe a virus, is that when i completely start up my computer after a complete shutdown or restart then at the beggining a screen comes up with something along these lines. Windows has detected a program tying to run. Program name Setup.exe, program location C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Application Data\VideoSolution.exe/data0137/ and something along those lines, and I always say no. I am running Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit.

They are both Lite On brand but one is a dvd/cd rw and the other is a blu ray, but when they both are hooked up it causes the computer to restart over and over and over giving a blue screen with error messages but, it flashes too fast to read it before doing it again

in a very dumb move i used registry mechanic and it screwed with my system. mostly on my account(lucky me). I can’t really access any Microsoft application from my account. but i can with every other account. my main reason i need help is system restore wont work. It ‘ encountered an unexpected error ‘. I am no noob with computers, I am close to being a pro, so tell me how it is. all i need is system restore to work. (the shadow copy service is on and set to automatic for now) and im at normal startup. so any help ps. would it be a bad idea to add registry data from say the hidden admin account to my account? I have been using my VGA connection from my desktop HP to my Sony Bravia for about 3 months now. Although when I tried to hook it up to yesterday my TV said “Unsupported Signal”. I have tried every single resolution and have made sure it was at 60hz, but nothing is working. It will flash on for a second then give me the error message. Also, It works on my other computer on a variety of different settings. I feel it may have something to do with the computer monitor. It is an HP 2009 Series Wide LCD Monitor with1600x900 recommended resolution. I feel the driver that is installed with the monitor is not letting me use another output source. Anyone have any ideas? I am wirelessly connected to a linksys router and for the most part it works fine, however it will randomly disconnect or go extremely slow about every five to ten minutes. I think it’s my connection and not my computer because it happens if i want to play on xbox live and it use to work fine about a month ago before my dad got a new laptop. I installed QuickPwn and iPod1,1_2.2.1_5H11_Restore to my Windows 7 computer to jailbreak my iPod. I downloaded them, but then I realized I like my iPod how it is and I don’t want to jailbreak it. But when I tried opening QuickPwn in BitZipper it said there was unwanted software in the program. So I didn’t open it. I then dragged it to my desktop and opened it and a message came up saying something like “Windows is trying to find answers to this problem” but i canceled it. So I deleted it and now I want to just make sure its not a virus.

Upon start up and every time i try to play a game with high graphics, I get an error message telling me that i will get better quality if i use the 1024 x 768 screen resolution setting. This message comes up every 20 seconds or so making it quite impossible to play any game. The problem is my screen resolution IS set to 1024 x 768 and the error message is coming up for no reason. how to make it go away?

My computer used to lose connection to the internet frequently at random times. Well, one day my cousin was using the computer and he went to diagnose and repair which is found by clicking on the little computer icon in the bottom right of the screen which tells you the status of your internet connection and he clicked on the “Automatically get new IP settings” thing and it fixed it. Well, tonight my computer once again lost connection and this time when I clicked it, it didn’t work until I shut down the computer three times and on the third time I got my connection back when I clicked on the “get New IP settings” thing. What I want to know is why did it only resolve the problem on the third try after I re-started the computer 3 times and also reset my modem 3 times!? All Help Appreciated! Thanks!

I have a Dell Latitude Laptop using Windows XP. I took it to Geek Squad because it was skipping and the freezing up when I played DVDs or any kind of audio. When it freezes I have to turn it off witut shutting it down. It also wouldn’t freeze right away..it freezes into about 10 minutes of playing the DVD. It was also making weird noises when it froze. Best Buy informed me that the noise wasn’t any hardware issue, but the kind of noise the computer makes when it’s frozen. They said nothing was wrong hardware wise, and that I had 6 viruses on the laptop. Well now, all those viruses are removed, and my laptop is still skipping and freezing when I play DVDs..to the point where I have to turn off the computer without shutting it down. It was awhile ago when I saw it, but there is apparently something you can download and burn to a disk and it will delete just about everything from your computer to make reformatting easier. Anybody know what the website is? There are missing, necessary files on our desktop or there may have been a virus and now its all screwy. i have a problem with my internal HDD. When this all happened, i was playing a game online. I got a Virus Worm and i shut down my computer and reformatted my HDD and put windows back on. I had a secondary HDD in for back-up purposes. so got windows in and put everything back, but i then noticed that my computers performance went down drastically with my main HDD, I could not copy anything i had onto the back-up drive and once i did it was so slow to copy the file. Once i had all the files on the back-up drive, i decided to start from the back-up drive with windows. Same applied. It was really slow with the reading-and-writing. i decided to take the secondary back-up drive out and boot from the main HDD. Everything seemed to be running smoothly i checked the main HDD Temperature with HD tune. The drives temp was 37 degrees Celsius, and the drive went to normal temperature of 43-44 degrees Celsius. I then decided to plug in the secondary HDD and leave it on for a day. the temperature went from 43-44 degrees to 47-48 degrees Celsius. So my guess is that the HDD drives are getting way to hot, and i am getting what seems like bad sectors in the drive, but it has never done this before. I have always had my back-up drive in ever since i got my main HDD. I can’t place my finger on what is wrong with my drives. Once the main HDD is lower temperatures the drive seems to be performing better. but its normal temperature is 43-44 degrees Celsius and i still have some problems with reading and writing then. Can someone tell me what has happened please. I dont know if it was from the worm virus or if the temperatures are getting too hot (but has never done this before) can someone tell me what to do. I have changed the line leading into the motherboard as well, and that seems to have no effect. i even swapped the board lines between the CD drives and the HDD drives, no effect on that either. can someone tell me what is going on, i have ran out of options. Hello, I currently bought a computer and i installed all the anti-virus and other software. I want my internet to work but when i go to my hardware files. Ethernet Controller and Bus Controller and 2 other software have a question mark next to them. It says that there is errors installing it. Yes, i uninstalled it and installed it back but it wont work. i still cant go on the internet. btw, i bought the computer in different parts. Like i have HP Procesor and BenQ Monitor. Hello everyone, i just installed a new PSU and GPU. I think i hooked everything up fine, then my PC got shut down twice, i thought it was the CPU overheating. I connected the fan in more tightly, that may have been the problem. However, my CPU is having a hard time running basic programs. As Im typing this, my CPU percentage is fluctuating between as low as 10% and as high as 30% or even 60% at times!! Im pretty sure i have no viruses, infact, this issue didnt start happening until i installed the new parts. Is it overheating? BIOS upon bootup says my temps are like 37degrees celsius. I have Windows 7 Ultimate installed in my HCL laptop. Last month i was encrypting my external hard disk with “bit locker drive encryption”. It started normally, but suddenly after 49%, it stuck, displaying an error: “An error occurred. This disk has one or more errors, run chkdsk/r, if the error persist this may be indicative of a hardware fault…” I then thought to decrypt my data back and to disable the protection. When I tried doing this, after some time my PC hanged and the operation got aborted. When I restarted my system, i found that the disk is not being detected. It is not shown in “computer”, although the disk lights were on. I tried running the hard disk in “Ubuntu OS”, it works there, but all my data is encrypted. My hard disk is absolutely fine and OK. There is no problem with hardware and no virus is there in my PC as well. What to do now? How can i get my data back and how can i decrypt my harddisk? Please help, since this data worths me a lot. Okay..I’m totally a newb at this and I don’t really know much about what’s going on in my computer, but one day I was playig sims 2 and my computer shut down and restarted, and so I didn’t really make a big deal out of it until it kept happening. Then yesterday my comp started being extremely slow. I thought I had some type of virus so I tried doing a virus scan, and while waiting for that to finish I installed mAlwarebytes and got it installed but for some reason it didn’t run. So I installed adwarebot and did a scan and it showed me over 500 infected files and I removed them all. Then I tried turning off the automatic restarting thing, then suddenly I got the BSOD, saying I had the driver_irql_not_less_or_equal. And I have no idea what that means, and basically I haven’t been able to find out what the problem was because whenever I try to do I virus scan I can’t succesfully finish it wihout my comp restarting randomly. I have two computers that I’m now having problems with. yesterday, my first computer shut down and said “RPC has been terminated”. everytime I restart that computer, it gives me another 1:00 minute shut down warning. I know I need to change the settings of the RPC, but it shuts down before I can ever get to it. is there another way to fix this? The second computer messed up today. I was researching how to fix the other RPC problem and my computer shut down. when it rebooted, I now have “Internet security 2010″ installed and I can’t delete it. I had a similiar virus before and was able to manually delete the virus, but this one won’t let me open task manager or the registry to delete it. it’s even taken over my Internet and won’t let me on. so I’m stuck trying to research problems on my iPhone. I read somewhere that if you can’t get task manager to open that you need to wipe out your hard drive. I am wanting to do this but I can’t find my reinstallation CD for this computer which is an emachines. however, I have the installation cd for the other computer with the RPC problem, but that computer is a Dell. can I install a Dell operating system on my emachines? they’re both windows XP. I’ve had my laptop for approximately two years and all of a sudden it has started to shut down constantly. in a very dumb move i used registry mechanic and it screwed with my system. mostly on my account(lucky me). I can’t really access any Microsoft application from my account. but i can with every other account. my main reason i need help is system restore wont work. It ‘ encountered an unexpected error ‘. I am no noob with computers, I am close to being a pro, so tell me how it is. all i need is system restore to work. (the shadow copy service is on and set to automatic for now) and im at normal startup. so any help ps. would it be a bad idea to add registry data from say the hidden admin account to my account? (just the Microsoft stuff?)

my webcam is integrated into my lenovo ideapad y730, and as lenovo is awful and doesnt have any compatibility with windows 7, when i upgraded, the installer told me i need to uninstall my camera software, lenovo easy camera. are there any generic softwares (for free) that could run the camera, because when i try to use skype or another video chat, all i get is audio, the video wont display. I’ve tried downloading all the new drivers and nothing is working. thanks for the help.

I play games on facebook like Yoville and Cafe World and a few weeks ago my computer did something or i did something to it and now I can not see the right side of the application screen. We have a wireless internet connection from Time Warner Cable in our home. Multiple electronics are using the internet from 4 laptops, 2 ipod’s and a Playstation 3. It seems like we constantly need to restart the router for someone to get online. For example: If I am playing a game online with my Playstation 3 then no one else can get on their laptop without restarting it. Another example is if 3 people are on their laptop and now the 4th cant get on without restarting the router. Once the router is restarted then everyone can get on the internet at once. So while it isnt a huge deal, it is annoying having to restart it as soon as someone wants to get on. What im wondering is if this is just something we have to deal with or is there a way to fix this? Such as getting a better router? If there is a need for a better router, any suggestions? Thanks to all who reply.

THIS IS REALLY PISSING ME OFF!! None of my friends experience this problem and the computer downstairs (off the same internet connection) loads fine!! I have downloaded Veoh Web Player and I have Adobe Flash Player 10! i have experienced this problem ever since I upgraded to Windows 7 but i cant see how that could have affected it so it could just be a coincidence with the timing! I am running Windows XP SP3 and am connected to the internet through a Comcast modem and Belkin router. It says my internet connection is excellent and this problem does not occur on the other laptop in the house. I have tried many things and there are no viruses or firewall problems. I decided to run IE’s diagnostic thing. It said there was some problem, that I was told could be solved by using Winsock XP Fix (because whenever IE tried to fix it, it claimed it fixed it and to restart my computer, but then when I would restart, the problem would still occur and be detected). After using Winsock XP Fix, the problem stopped for a few hours, but is now back again and this program does not solve it anymore. Any help is appreciated, thank you. I got a virus in my computer, the virus randomly poops up websties when im online, or when i click on a link fro example a link from somthing i googled it send me to this ramdom pages. My internet explorer also keeps on saying that there was an error so it keeps shutting down. I already scaned my compuer several times and all it catches is a tracking cookie, It never picks up any virus. Also one of the sities that popped up was about norton popping up sites and had people’s comments of how annoying that was. It was a Norton site(wich pooped up too) I dont know if that is even relevant to this. My computer decided to kick off the end of the year by picking up something that is making it act whacky. My AV (McAfee) is logging and blocking something called winupdate86 from creating files. Now it seems that every 20 minutes there is a pop up that states that Windows will download a anti spyware program. This is the first time that this has happened to me, so I don’t know how to handle it. I don’t even know if this is spyware, malware, adware or trojan. Even my AV is logging all this it is still does not seem to see this as a problem. So if you could help by answering some questions I would greatly appreciate it. 1. My computer has two hard drives. The AV is logging and blocking files in the first hard drive. Is the second hard drive infected? 2. What free programs are out there to help remove this from my computer? 3. My friend had an executable file that kept trying to log onto the internet. He fixed it by changing the .exe in the file to a .txt. If I know what files are causing the problem can I do the same thing, without harming my computer? 4. Can I take both hard drives, place them in external hard drive enclosures and have a friend with a clean computer scan them to find and remove the problem? 5. Could AVG be downloaded onto a thumb drive and then used to scan my computer? 6. Would it be possible to move files from the second hard drive to an external hard drive without infecting anything? 7. All my friends have Vista or Windows 7. I used Windows XP. If they decided to scan my computer would this cause a conflict with my drives. That is it for now. I am kind paranoid about downloading and installing anything right now. If you can answer all the questions and give me any direction I would greatly appreciate it. I’ve been to all the sites to help out with removing the program however they all request that I change the LAN settings. I do this but seconds later they get automatically changed back. mmk, so my antivirus expires in march and i’m thinking about switching….i currently have trend micro internet security, because it came with my laptop last christmas, however i’m considering going back to norton, because i had them for like 7 years on my old computer and had very few problems…it blocked alot of crap from my computer too lol. i know that trend micro has blocked some stuff too but it updates constantly and it drives me a little crazy lol. i absolutely refuse to get mcafee, i hate mcafee. its a piece of crap not worth my money, so many people that i know who had it and had trouble with it eithor just glitches or letting crap in other antivirus programs wouldn’t have. and they didnt have their settings turned down low…i dont trust the free antiviruses eithor [avg, avast, avira, etc] because i just dont feel safe with them…i’ve heard kaspersy is pretty good, but what is in your opinion the best [thats not eithor mcafee or one of the free ones? lol] thank you!! I recently bought a laptop over Christmas along with Microsoft 2007 Home & Student and Kaspersky Anti-Virus 2010 (they are both on disc/CDs). Do I still need an internet connection for installing them, like if I was required to activate something online? I know on boxes of both it says if you don’t have a CD drive you can install if online, since they give you an activation code. I DO have a CD drive. I believe I may have picked up a virus. Just yesterday my pc started acting “funny” - locking up when moving from one thing to another, etc. Then today I attempted to log into my online bank account and was taken to a page (which looked as though it was part of my bank’s site) that was asking for my name, dob, ss#, bank card number, pin, etc in order to “verify” me. I knew this wasn’t right so I closed internet explorer, re-opened and tried going to Ebay, when I attempted to log in there I was taken to the same sort of page but this time it looked like it was part of the Ebay site. Hi, Ok I have a dell laptop inspiron E1505, I really need help with this malware or whatever it is ! I have a Dell Latitude Laptop using Windows XP. I took it to Geek Squad because it was skipping and the freezing up when I played DVDs or any kind of audio. When it freezes I have to turn it off witut shutting it down. It also wouldn’t freeze right away..it freezes into about 10 minutes of playing the DVD. It was also making weird noises when it froze. Best Buy informed me that the noise wasn’t any hardware issue, but the kind of noise the computer makes when it’s frozen. They said nothing was wrong hardware wise, and that I had 6 viruses on the laptop. Well now, all those viruses are removed, and my laptop is still skipping and freezing when I play DVDs..to the point where I have to turn off the computer without shutting it down. Copmaq presario 2500 maybe 7+ years old. How do I get this thing to run faster. When we boot it up it takes 5 - 10 minutes before you can use anything, any sooner than that it will freeze up. The anti virus recently expired and anything I tried to put onto it totally screwed it up. After Mcafee I couldnt get anything to run. I took that off and am using a free avg for now. But seriously everything is so slow on this thing what can I do to get it running faster? Yeah I know throw it away and get a new one. Not that easy its my GF’s and she loves it. My computer had a virus and we got it rebooted and after getting it rebooted there is no sound but when I go on device manager and check it says the sound is fine and games that require sound are playing I think it has something to do with the settings. I went and checked almost all of them and there seems to be no problem last time there was a similar problem and someone sorted it out they sound sound was going in as an input and not coming out as an out put if this is the problem does someone know how I can adjust and if this is not the problem what is the problem. My computer keep on hanging and then restart when I open any games. I scan it with mcafee anti virus, and my computer has no virus, scan it with superantispyware and no threats found. I also used kaspersky rescue disk, and nothings found. I format my computer and install a games, and it hangs again. I’ve had my laptop a little over 3 years and it’s been slowing down over the years. For example, it takes a couple minutes to open Mozilla Firefox. I know it has to do with all of the junk on my hard drive, but I don’t know how to go about cleaning it out. Should I completely wipe out my computer and start anew? If so, - will I have to re-order/ pay for programs such as Norton Antivirus? - will I need to install another copy of Microsoft Office/ buy a new version? Or, is there any FREE program that can help clean out the junk on my hard drive without completely wiping it out? If so, - Please name and describe the program.
